CommentsSun, 04 Oct 2009 12:18:20 I have two boys with CP, possible MR, and additional medical challenges caused by an unknown genetic syndrome. Rex is 4 1/2 and currently receives all of his services in home. O/T 1 hr, P/T w/ APE 90 minutes, Speech 1 hr, Behavior services 10 hours, and one on one home school for 15 hrs per week. Cade is 2 1/2 and gets his services in home as well. He gets P/T, O/T, Speech for 1 hr each, and IDS (Infant Development Specialist) 2 hrs per week. He will get home school too when he turns 3 yrs. They are immune deficient and can't be around others at school. The home programs they run are amazingly beneficial. They develop by leaps and bounds! I even started a girls night out and 3 of the 6 women are the boys therapists. They are like family and love the boys, it shows in all the wonderful care and support they give to Rex and Cade. Clara Tue, 20 Oct 2009 10:39:43 Services? These are very scarce. It seems that your child isn't entitled to services if the agency doesn't want to provide them. Something really needs to be done about this at the State level. More support for people with disabilities and their families needs to be provided. If the agency doesn't want to provide this support, they give the state a flimsy excuse and nothing is ever done to support the person or family. Why doesn't the State workers check out the families side of the story instead of taking the word of the agency? Anna Thu, 22 Oct 2009 12:07:01 Our son, Brady, had birth to three until he was 3 (obviously), then we were recommended to Milestones Physical Therapy in Teays Valley. We were received with open arms and I can honestly tell you that the therapists love their job. I cannot say enough about them. They will go beyond the call of duty to help you. They have helped us through many difficult and unknown times. They have made phone calls and has fought to help Brady. They take the whole body into consideration, not just physical, and they also care about the concerns and needs of the family. I thank God that he put us together with Milestones! melissa Sun, 08 Nov 2009 06:03:44 clara: Mon, 07 Dec 2009 10:50:53 My daughter is an adult now, but I look back at how terrible her education was in our local schools. Her early childhood education was great at Easter Seals. If I was starting her schooling now I would consider 1) parochial school with extra support 2) home school with additional supports from public school or county. I know I could have done a better job. My daughter gets tutored now by the Center for Independent Living to catch up where the school dropped the ball. There is so much available for home schooling, I would definitely look into it.
