CommentsNatalie Tue, 06 Oct 2009 16:10:26 I have a 2 yr old that is on a gluten free, soy free, milk free, nut free, fish free diet. If anyone has any good recipes or meal ideas please get back with me! We have been on many diets but this one seems to be most difficult to abide by! Espically for a hungry 2 yr old that loves everything! angel Thu, 29 Oct 2009 16:29:53 Me again! OK Rowan is 27 months old and feeding has always been difficult! Lately it's become impossible! Rowan is on a 3 to 1 mix of pediasure and isomil...thickend with either thicket or oatmeal to a nearly honey cosistancy! She also "TOLERATES" some stage 2 solids by spoon...or she did until very recently. I'm not sure if she's teething or not feeling good or what but she's refusing everything! I've resorted to actually squeezing her bottle nipple into her mouth a couple drops at a time! We've fought long and hard to avoid getting a feeding tube simply because we hate the idea of her losing the ability to eat at all. But it's getting scary...did I mention she chokes horribly? Well she does! So here is my question how do you know when enough is enough? When do you throw in the towl and get the feeding tube? Kylie Sat, 05 Dec 2009 20:27:19 hi angel, don't be discouraged by a feeding tube. if you get one they can eat normal food as well. you can use the tube as a 'top up' addition to her meals. enough is enough when its upsetting for all. a feeding tube can make things easier. start with a nasal gastric tube first. that way there is need for major surgery. call a test run if you like. good luck. Laurie Wed, 06 Jan 2010 21:54:16 My daughter has an NG tube and it was really scary at first. Now I can put one down in about 2 mins. The thinner a liquid is going down, the harder it is for the oral motor muscles to organize to get things were they need to go and that causes more choking. You ought to get an SLP or OT who is also a feeding specialist to work with you. She is still young enough for First Steps, does she receive any type of early intervention services? Request this from her dr if not. It runs out at age 3. Good luck and don't be too discouraged. Part of it might also be that she wants to be in control of what she eats instead of taking what is given. Try giving her two options (both of which you can live with) so she feels like she has control over what she eats. Tue, 12 Jan 2010 08:13:30 Thanks for the input guys!! Row just had her consult yesterday and it looks like we're GO for the G Tube...but they want to do some tests to see if she may also need a Neson? Not sure about the spelling! Getting ready to do my research but figured I'd go directly to the authority on these matters...you all! Thanks so much!!! Leave a Reply |
